Napoleon Bonaparte was considered the most brilliant military general of his time. Although his driving ego propelled him to make himself "Emperor of France," in civil affairs, Bonaparte implemented a wide array of liberal reforms across Europe, including the abolition of feudalism, the establishment of legal equality and religious toleration, and the legalization of divorce. His lasting legal achievement, the Napoleonic Code, has been adopted to varying degrees by dozens of nations around the world.
Bonaparte also had a deep understanding of leadership and what drives men, hence his quote, "I have learned that men will die for ribbons."
